'Horizon Zero Dawn' Netflix Series Being Developed By 'Umbrella Academy' Showrunner

Blackman said he's "thrilled to be working with Netflix" on bringing Horizon Zero Dawn to life.

In case you missed it, earlier this year, it was revealed that a TV adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is in the works. The show is coming to Netflix, and although official details have been light on the ground, we just got a really important update.

Take a look at the trailer for Horizon Zero Dawn below.

Deadline reports that Steve Blackman, AKA the executive producer and showrunner for the The Umbrella Academy, is developing the series under his new production company, Irish Cowboy. He’s currently working on both the Zero Dawn adaptation, and a drama series called Orbital.

Horizon Zero Dawn and Orbital are elevated, event-level projects grounded in characters that fans will love and relate to, which are hallmarks of Irish Cowboy productions,” Blackman said (via Deadline). “We’re thrilled to be working with Netflix and all of our partners on developing these ground-breaking stories.”

According to Deadline, alongside Blackman, the series’ executive producers will be Michelle Lovretta (The Umbrella Academy) and Abbey Morris, as well as PlayStation Productions’ Carter Swan and Asad Qizilbash (Uncharted [2022]), Ben McCaw and Jan-Bart van Beek from Guerrilla Games, and Matthew Ball and Roy Lee from Vertigo.

Back in June, one industry insider claimed that the show would take place “during the height of humanity, right before the fall”, and would be called Horizon 2047 - serving as a prequel to the first game, rather than a straight adaptation. While this isn’t at all confirmed, it certainly sounds interesting - we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
