Free Games Roundup: It's A Pretty Big Week For FPS Fans

Hello again, all you Jacks and Jills. I'm sure you know the drill at this point. We're still in lockdown. We're still staying in, and we're still saving lives by doing so. Good on you, as always. And as always, I've rounded up some of the best and biggest free games that you can get your hands on this week - just in case you need to test your eyes but don't have a car handy.

I'm just going to rip this particular plaster of quickly: there are a lot of first-person shooters going for free this week. In fact, that's almost exclusively what's on offer. Sorry about that if you're not a huge fan of the genre, but to be fair, these are some of the best shooters out there.

Ubisoft

Let's start with the most limited of these limited-time offers. Ubisoft has made its 2018 open world shooter Far Cry 5 available to download on PC for the weekend, which you can do here. Please note that it's only free to download and play until May 31st, after which you will have to pay if you'd like to continue playing.

The good news is that your progress will carry over if you do decide to buy it, and both the Standard and Gold editions of the game will be 75% off as soon as the weekend finishes. Oh, and Ubisoft's usually selection of free games and trials for some of its biggest titles can still be found here.

What's cooking over on the Epic Games Store? Well, we've only got two cracking loot shooters thanks to Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. This compilation package contains Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Well worth your time. In addition to Borderlands, Epic is also offering an incredibly strange-looking first-person graffiti game called Sludge Life. I've honestly never heard of it, but I'm excited to see what it's about.

That's not it for shooters though, oh no. Provided you have a PS Plus subscription (and a PS4, ideally), Call Of Duty: WWII is available to download now. If you're not a subscriber but you want to try the game? Set up a free trial. WWII is an underrated one, if you ask me. PS Plus subscribers can also look forward to EA's Star Wars Battlefront II joining the service on June 2nd. Trust me, it's gotten a lot better.

But wait, there's more! Arkane Studios is giving away a free game in celebration of its 20th anniversary, so definitely check that out. Plus, GOG, is still giving away a collection of 27 classic PC games for free, so go take a look at that.

I should also point out that anyone who signs up for Google Stadia right now gets two free months of Stadia Pro. This means access to games like Destiny 2, Grid, and Zombie Army 4: Dead War. I'm sure Stadia really needs your help, so do what you can.
