In September 2023 we were taken back to the series roots of the Assassin’s Creed series with Assassin’s Creed Mirage and with that, it’s given me a taste of yesteryear and what could be. As such, I think it’s about time for the original Assassin’s Creed to get the remake that it truly deserves.
Over 16 years ago, we were graced with Assassin’s Creed when it arrived in 2007 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Was the OG Assassin’s Creed a perfect game, no? That being said, it would be the catalyst of one of Ubisoft’s most popular series and without it, some could argue that the publisher may not have reached the heights that it has today.

Over the years, for better or worse, the Assassin’s Creed series evolved into a very different franchise than it once was. We could argue that the last traditional game in this series was Assassin’s Creed Rogue starring Irishman, Shay Patrick Cormac. After Rogue, it was followed by Assassin’s Creed Unity and Syndicate, before morphing into the dubbed ‘RPG trilogy’ with Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla.

When Assassin’s Creed Mirage was released we soon discovered that it played a lot like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. This makes sense after all, as Assassin’s Creed Mirage was intended to be an expansion to the 2020 Norse action adventure RPG.
As a fan since the very beginning who has played every game in the series other than some of the handheld spin-offs, I think it’s about time that the series was truly taken back to its roots with a full remake built from the ground inspired by the 2007 game. This remake would likely be a welcomed addition to the series by fans and perhaps powered by a new engine with modernised visuals and more refined gameplay over its source material, this could be a surefire win for Ubisoft.
Call me overly optimistic, but I can’t help but think that Ubisoft will eventually give us the Assassin’s Creed remake we crave. Not only would this be great for new and returning fans, but it would also be great to see its protagonist Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad hog the spotlight once more. So come on Ubisoft, make it happen.
