GTA 6 chainsaw leak confirms return of fan-favourite weapon

Could the chainsaw make a return in GTA 6?

Many would have perhaps hoped that when Rockstar Games gave us the most recent update for GTA VI, speculation may have calmed down, at least by a little.

The likelihood is that even after Rockstar Games has released the first official trailer for GTA VI in early December, the hype train will continue to roll like never before. So get yourself ready for further influxes of daily news and rumours. Happy days!

Check out our GTA VI roundup video below!

The latest rumour claims that chainsaws will apparently be making a return in GTA VI. For a series that can be so brutal as Grand Theft Auto, it’s quite baffling that the appearance of a chainsaw weapon has been few and far between. Not including any spin-off titles, the chainsaw has only appeared in GTA: Vice City and San Andreas. This means that its last official appearance in a mainline game was all the way back in 2004.

Thankfully, if you’ve missed brutalising NPCs with a chainsaw in the Grand Theft Auto series, then you might be happy with this latest rumour as it is claimed that the weapon is making a return in GTA VI. As shared in a recent Reddit post, information from an alleged deleted LinkedIn post was shared that claimed that the chainsaw is returning. Yet, the potential return of the chainsaw in GTA VI is already dividing fans.

“I mean, the problem with that is if they're adding a chainsaw, they are going to have to have full dismemberment,” suggested mybanez15. “They aren't going to get away with just a bit of blood spatter and the NPC falling over like they used to.”

“I honestly wonder if there’s going to be a point when GTA is too realistic, where you’ll feel bad for killing pedestrians instead of it being fun,” replied FlasKamel.

“Some people say that it would be really polemic to see dismemberment. But don't many games already have it? Like Red Dead Redemption, Cyberpunk 2077, Resident Evil and Mortal Kombat! Even movies and a lot of other media,” said me_edwin.

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the chainsaw made a return in GTA VI and I doubt that much of the fanbase will either. Hopefully, Rockstar Games will confirm all in the coming months. Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to be released sometime between 2024 to 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
