A Fantastic Four Video Game From Uncharted's Creator Could Be On The Way

A Fantastic Four Video Game From Uncharted's Creator Could Be On The Way

This would be fantastic in every sense

Earlier this week it emerged that Uncharted co-creator Amy Hennig and her studio Skydance New Media had signed a deal with Marvel Entertainment to develop a “completely original story and take on the Marvel Universe.”

Anyone familiar with Hennig’s work should of course immediately be excited by this news. Her worlds are always cinematic in their ambition, yet never lose sight of the characters that sit at the heart of them. It’s the kind of approach that makes her the perfect fit for a Marvel game, no?

“I can’t imagine a better partner than Marvel for our first game,” said Hennig in an announcement. “The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. It’s an honor to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humor that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love.”

While Hennig has yet to confirm exactly which corner of the Marvel universe she and her team are destined for, a new report suggests that it’s going to be a brand-new Fantastic Four game.

On the November 2 episode of Fatman Beyond, co-host and scriptwriter Marc Bernardin spoke a little about his role as a writer on the Skydance Marvel title. According to host Kevin Smith, the stream’s chat almost immediately correctly guessed the source material for the upcoming game.

Game Informer Producer Ben Hanson added on Twitter, "the two viable choices were Ant-Man and Fantastic Four. My money’s on Fantastic Four.”

While this is far from officially confirmed, I’m already salivating at the idea of a AAA Fantastic Four game from the mind behind Uncharted. Marvel’s first family are the perfect choice for a story-driven video game. And the prospect of being able to play as Mister Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, The Human Torch, and The Thing would open up some wonderfully varied gameplay possibilities.

With that said, Ant Man’s ability to shrink down and explore new worlds could also make for some terrific and unforgettable action set-pieces. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see.
