Uncharted Creator Set To Develop A New Marvel Game

Uncharted Creator Set To Develop A New Marvel Game

The new game promises "action, mystery and thrills" in equal measure.

Amy Hennig, a name you will no doubt recognise if you’re a fan of the Uncharted series, will be working with Marvel Entertainment to develop a “completely original story and take on the Marvel Universe.”

As the writer and creative director on Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, Hennig has been praised for her impactful contributions to the industry as well as her gift for creating cinematic and moving gameplay. She left Naughty Dog in 2014 after a decade with the developer, and was involved with the unreleased Star Wars game that was in the works with Visceral Games.

With Skydance New Media, the company aims to “[capture] the spirit of TV and film to excite both longtime gamers and non-gamers alike,” challenging conventions and experimenting with new ways that the player is brought into the world of the game. All in all, it’s sounding like a match made in heaven for Marvel fans, even if we don’t know what the project is about yet.

“I can’t imagine a better partner than Marvel for our first game,” said Hennig, president of Skydance New Media, in the announcement. “The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. It’s an honor to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humor that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love.”

Jay Ong, the executive vice president and head of Marvel Games, sounded over the moon that the collaboration is off to a flying start. “Their ambition and vision for making innovative entertainment using beloved Marvel IP was obvious from our first meeting,” he said. “We’re excited to share more with Marvel fans when the time is right.”

In a turn up for the books, we got the reveal that a Wolverine game is in development at Insomniac Games earlier this summer. As a "full-sized" game featuring a "mature tone", fans are very excited for the possibilities of the new story, alongside the second Marvel’s Spider-Man.
