Activision CEO Bobby Kotick is finally stepping down, try and look sad

Okay pals, it’s time to pretend to be sad. Let’s all make a real melodrama effort out of waving goodbye to Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision.

Bobby Kotick, and his old-fashioned politics, are finally waving goodbye to an industry that has made him a multimillionaire. After three decades of rubbing his hands together, earning $600 million, and not leaping to action over alleged sexual misconduct in his company which he allegedly had previous knowledge about, he’s finally leaving Activision.

The recent Call of Duty launch has been muddled but new game modes are proving a hit.

We're talking about a man who lined his pockets while his staff noted horrible working situations, which he then blamed on “a very aggressive labour movement working hard to try to destabilise the company.” It’s hard to be genuinely sad that he’s leaving gaming after the Microsoft buyout of Activision Blizzard when his company has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

What’s worse is the tainted state he leaves the company in despite there being thousands of passionate, dedicated, talented, and wonderful members of staff still putting in hundreds of hours to bring us entertainment.

So, instead of dedicating more words to him let’s look at the games that Activision Blizzard are currently supporting post-launch.

We’ve got the successful Diablo IV which had a slightly rocky start but has recently rediscovered its footing and is creating amazing experiences; then there’s Overwatch 2 which has also had its moments of chaos but is still a great shooter full of personality and character; of course there’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, the multiplayer aspects of which are keeping millions of players entertained; and who could forget World of Warcraft, the biggest MMO ever created which recently announced a huge push in seasonal content and chapter expansions.

Let’s hope that under new management the company can turn itself around and continue to bring us top-quality games that we’ll be playing for countless years.
