So let’s face it, we may not be getting an Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remaster for a while but to make up for it, Ubisoft are giving players free access to their upcoming action-adventure game. Spoiler alert, it has pirates!
Although it became something of a joke that we would never see Ubisoft’s upcoming title, Skull and Bones actually make it to release after countless delays, we have finally made it! Set to release on 16 February, Skull and Bones sees players enter a “perilous world where you play by your own rules to rise from a nobody to become the most fearsome pirate kingpin”.

Announced way back in 2017, Skull and Bones was hit with various delays which means its release coming seven years later is no surprise. Starting out its life as an Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag expansion, it turned into an independent title which soon became infamous for its delays.

For many reasons including so that Ubisoft could create “a much more polished and balanced experience”, Skull and Bones seemed as though it was never going to make it, but against all odds, it will release in just a few days. Before then however, it will enter an open beta which will run from 8 to 11 February.
According to a post on the official Ubisoft Twitter account, the Skull and Bones open beta will be free to play in America, Europe and Oceania & Asia with preloads also available a few days before. This will give players the opportunity to experience the game for the first time and give any feedback they may have.
Skull and Bones will launch on 16 February for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store. Although it won’t be available on Steam, Ubisoft+ subscribers can play three days early.
