Assassin's Creed Mirage ‘free to play’ on day one, just not for everyone

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is on the way. In fact, thanks to the recent PlayStation Showcase, we now know that the game will launch on 12 October. While I’m sure we’ll find out more at the upcoming Ubisoft Forward - due to be held on 12 June - it’s also been unveiled that Mirage will be ‘free to play’ for some players on day one. You’ll simply need to be a Ubisoft+ subscriber.

Gaming subscription services can be a great way of saving money. While they do cost a pretty penny, chances are you’ll end up saving loads of money in the long run by having a bunch of recent releases all in one place. PlayStation Plus subscribers recently discovered that the May extra tier catalogue additions were worth a whopping £600, whereas a monthly membership is just £10.99 a month, or it’s £83.99 for a whole year. You can see the benefit when these kinds of drops happen every month.

Later this year, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will gain day one access to Starfield - a game which would otherwise cost £70, whereas Game Pass costs £7.99 a month. Now, it’s been unveiled that Ubisoft+ subscribers will gain day one access to Mirage, so you may want to nab a membership instead of the game itself.

As reported by GameRant, the news was announced on Ubisoft’s Twitter account. They wrote, “Play Assassin’s Creed Mirage day one with Ubisoft+ on PC and Xbox.” Let’s take a look at the numbers. Pre-orders for Assassin’s Creed Mirage are currently listed for £45, whereas a Ubisoft+ membership costs £12.99 a month. Even if you complete the game across three months, it still works out cheaper. Plus, of course, you’ll also gain access to a bunch of other Ubisoft titles.

Now, you may be like me, and enjoy holding a physical copy in your hands in which case, this may not be the move to make for you. It’s nice to have money-saving options though and we want to help you lay out those options, so maybe a Ubisoft+ membership is the more cost-effective way to go.
