Assassin's Creed Origins fans agree Bayek's son's death one of gaming's most brutal

Assassin’s Creed fans agree that the death of Bayek’s son in Origins is easily one of gaming’s most brutal tragedies.

While Assassin’s Creed’s RPG entries tend to be a tad more divisive than their stealth-based counterparts, I think we can all band together and agree that Origins is a fantastic game. In fact, fans have previously defended it as “one of the best games ever”. A bold claim, but it is one that is oh so very easy to return to. While the side content may feel a tad repetitive at times, Origins boasts a stunning open-world, an engrossing story, and revitalised combat. What more could you want? That engrossing story does happen to include one particularly sad scene though.

If you recall, Khemu - Bayek’s son - is taken hostage by the Order of the Ancients in an attempt to force Bayek into opening the Temple of Amun’s Siwa Vault. Thinking he can outfight the Order, Bayek launches his attack but Flavius Metellus is able to redirect the dagger aimed at his chest, causing Bayek to send the blade straight into the chest of his own son.

“Bayek’s son absolutely destroyed me. I was not expecting to be that upset,” wrote Reddit user Cafffffffy, while Economy_Candidate299 added, “That slow shot where Khemu looks at you before his eyes roll white. It still hurts.” User malachimusclerat commented, “Abubakar Salim (Bayek) sells that s**t so well. He’s maybe my fav[e] protagonist just because the voice acting is so good.”

It’s true that Salim’s performance is stellar. I just rewatched the scene and oh my, my heart feels raw. Of course, it’s not the only tragedy to take place in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. The execution of Ezio’s family in Assassin’s Creed II has surely got to be up there too. Who knows what this year’s Codename Red has in store.
