Assassin's Creed Red release date narrowed down in major new leak

Assassin's Creed Red release date narrowed down in major new leak

A new leak may have just narrowed down Assassin's Creed Codename Red's release date.

With many rumours swirling about the next entry in the long-running Assassin’s Creed series, new information courtesy of a game tester has been released telling us more about Assassin’s Creed Red.

Assassin’s Creed Red is an upcoming Ubisoft title set in feudal Japan which tells the story of a male samurai, possibly based on the figure of Yasuke, and a female shinobi known as Naoi/Naoe. What follows is the standard Assassin’s Creed story of our early assassins hunting down the Templar Order but with an interesting period of history, Red is set to bring a new lease of life to the franchise.

According to PC_Focus on Twitter, new information about the game has been revealed courtesy of a game tester in recent days. As well as giving us a taster of what we can expect plot and gameplay wise, a possible release date may have also been teased.

Set from 1450 onwards, Assassin’s Creed Red is expected to have multiple time jumps and begins with a village under attack. Although players can choose between playing as the male or female character, the pair have somewhat differing backstories which are explored throughout the game. However, unlike being able to switch between them easily like in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, this will now only be possible upon entering specific shelters.

As for gameplay, the parkour element is expected to be highly improved and is reminiscent of the system found in Assassin’s Creed Unity. You will be able to traverse cities without ever touching the ground and “grip can be used for parkour and climbing since you can no longer climb on anything and everything.” Additionally, there will be challenges and puzzles which will need you to use your parkour skills.

With the developers supposedly wanting Assassin’s Creed Red to be “more down to earth” and with “less of a fantasy connection”, it is expected to be a unique entry in the series. Not only that, but the tester also reveals that devs are aiming for a Fall 2024 release, which would suggest September to November of this year. However, this has not been officially confirmed.
