Baldur's Gate 3 could be getting new ending in next update

Could a new ending be on its way? We hope so!

Few would call Baldur’s Gate 3 a disappointment. Having burst onto our screens earlier this year promising romance, adventure, unusual creatures, and epic dramas, it's delivered on all fronts. However, for some fans, the ending left a lot to be desired. An issue that might be addressed in the new update.

Dubbed the “horniest game of the year”, a lot of fans think of the romance and sex side of the game above all else. But there's so much more to the game, with its main narrative and various side quests weaving a tale that's filled with both elation and sorrow, the latter of which has followed one character in particular.

If you want justice for Karlach, check out our interview with Samantha Béart.

Karlach is a hugely beloved companion from the game, yet the ending the feisty warrior gets is heartbreakingly cruel. It’s an element of the game that fans have been extremely vocal about, which may be the reason why Larian Studios’ latest tweets have hinted at a possible new ending. First, the devs posted a party invite that reads, “Withers’ Epilogue Party Extravaganza! You’re invited!”, which was then followed by another tweet warning fans that the update is going to be big.

It’s so big, in fact, that the devs suggest uninstalling and then re-installing the updated version of the game if you’re low on space; it’s not a prospect I relish after it took so long to install the first time around on my PS5. Still, this demonstrates that Larian Studios has put a lot of effort into this patch, as it has the four previous others.

These posts give little information by way of confirmation that Karlach’s unfair ending will be righted, but it seems that epilogues are on the devs’ minds. And with Withers throwing an “epilogue party”, it would be beyond gut-wrenching if they denied Karlach a chance to join in the festivities.

If all goes as planned, BG3 Patch 5 should be here no later than the start of next week. Fingers crossed it delivers all we’re hoping for.
