Band Of Brothers sequel finally coming after 22 years

If you love World War period dramas, chances are that you’ve heard of the TV series Band of Brothers, created by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, inspired by a 1992 novel by Stephen E. Ambrose.

Much like Spielberg’s amazing 1998 movie, Saving Private Ryan (which starred Tom Hanks), Band of Brothers is inspired by real events. Released in 2001, Band of Brothers tells the story of Easy Company during World War II with each of its 10 episodes concluding with interviews with the soldiers who lived through the real events of the series.

If you’ve never watched Band of Brothers, it’s a series that I recommend you watch as soon as possible. Its impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 97% from critics and 96% from the audience only solidifies that recommendation.

In 2010, Band of Brothers would get a follow-up with The Pacific, this time it told the story based upon the real-life events of three marines of the 1st Marine Division. Granted, The Pacific wasn't as critically acclaimed as its predecessor, but with Rotten Tomatoes scores of 91% from critics and 89% from the audience, it’s one still not to be missed.

It’s now been 13 years since The Pacific and even longer when you consider Band of Brothers and fans of both series may have assumed that any possibility of a new series has long passed by now. Thankfully, we have some good news, because a spiritual successor for Band of Brothers is on the way 22 years later.

Masters of the Air is inspired by the 2007 novel by Donald L. Miller of the same name is once more based on real-life events, and follows the lives of the 100th Bombardment Group during World War II. Masters of the Air is written by John Orloff, with Gary Goetzman, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks being brought in as executive producers.

Hopefully, with a reported budget of $200-$300 million, this new series will be every bit as critically acclaimed as Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Unfortunately, this series is exclusive to Apple TV+, so it won't be available to a wider audience. However, that’s nothing that a free Apple TV+ trial won't be able to solve.

Masters of the Air will premiere on Apple+ TV on 26 January 2024.
