Battlefield 1 still looks absolutely gorgeous, fans agree

Battlefield 1 is a classic of the series from EA and DICE.

With so many Battlefield games released since the series launched over 20 years ago, there are so many fantastic entries to choose from as well as one or two stinkers, unfortunately.

In recent weeks, it seems that the series from Electronic Arts and DICE has been getting quite a bit of love, especially when it comes to the cult-classic Battlefield: Bad Company 2, a game released in 2010 which is still being fondly talked about today. However, despite the disappointing launch of Battlefield 2042 in 2021, there have been some good releases within the last decade, such as the topic of today’s discussion, Battlefield 1 released in 2016 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Check out the Battlefield 1 trailer below!

Battlefield 1 takes you back to The Great War, WW1, where new technology and worldwide conflict changed the face of warfare forever. Take part in every battle, control every massive vehicle, and execute every manoeuvre that turns an entire fight around. The whole world is at war – see what’s beyond the trenches,” reads the synopsis of Battlefield 1.

On the aggregate website Metacritic, Battlefield 1 scored as high as 89, cementing itself as a series favourite. This is in comparison to the average score of 68 for Battlefield 2042, which also scored a spiteful 2.2 from fans. In fairness to Battlefield 2042, from what we hear, the game is in a much better state now but the damage is already done for many. Hopefully, the series will have better luck with the next Battlefield game, that’s if it's ever released.

In the meantime, until the next entry in the series arrives, fans on Reddit have been sharing their love for Battlefield 1. Despite being released nearly eight years ago, Reddit user BobMama says that Battlefield 1 “still looks better than most games released today,” and it’s hard to disagree with that statement.

“The environmental details are unmatched. Seeing a tank plough through a building and accurately crumble to how and where it was hit will not be amusing. Or when bombs are going off everywhere, airships/planes dropping down and it completely alters the look of the map because of all the blasted mud, rubble and debris everywhere. This game is still a technical marvel,” exclaimed BlueLonk.

“Some of the voice lines for soldiers were truly haunting as well. I still remember the first time I went by a dead soldier and he was whimpering in pain and asking for his mother,” explained zoobrix, “Not that I think it was a bad thing, those details made the world seem so real.”

“And on top of all that, it was just a well-executed FPS. Great maps, well-enough balanced weapons and classes, great game modes that actually worked with those maps and classes, and all the cosmetics actually made sense for the period the game was set in. Truly a gem of a game,” replied chronberries

Battlefield 1 is out now on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. What’s more, it’s also backwards compatible with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
