Go beyond Skyrim in this incredible free fan expansion

Skyrim is 13 years old this year, which you absolutely wouldn't know given how much people continue to play and talk about it.

Bethesda's epic open-world RPG remains one of the finest fantasy sims ever made, and while the original Skyrim is definitely showing its age, fans everywhere continue to work tirelessly to improve - and even outright transform - the 2011 classic.

Take a look at some of the best Skyrim wins and fails below!

Skyrim lovers with a PC who might be looking to spice up a new playthrough could do a lot worse than checking out the hugely ambitious Beyond Skyrim - Bruma SE. This is a stunning compilation of multiple mods that effectively transforms the beloved Elder Scrolls adventure into something completely new. If you're hungry for a new official expansion, this mod comes pretty damn close.

As the name suggests, Beyond Skyrim - Bruma allows you to leave the borders of Skyrim and visit Bruma, a county of Cyrodiil.

"Discover what has become of the city's residents since the events of Oblivion in all-new adventures and storylines," the Nexusmods page teases. "Plunge into the depths of ancient Ayleid ruins. Explore an expansive region larger and denser than the Dragonborn DLC. In Beyond Skyrim: Bruma, the choices - and their consequences - are yours alone.

"Rediscover Frostcrag Spire, Cloud Ruler Temple, Frostfire Glade and many other legendary locations. The journey back to the Heartland begins now. Are you prepared?"

If you've already checked this one out, consider taking a look at some of the other hundreds of excellent Skyrim mods. Recent examples range from the introduction of new deadly traps to dungeons, or entirely new enemies to do battle with. Given The Elder Scrolls VI probably isn't coming for a long, long time, you might as well get on with Skyrim.
