Blade Runner fans, it’s time to get hyped. A brand new Blade Runner game has been announced by Annapurna Interactive, and it’s going to tell a totally new story.
During the Annapurna Interactive Showcase last night (29 June), the American game publisher revealed a bunch of exciting things, including the adorable episodic game To a T (which comes from Keita Takahashi - the creator of the Katamari Damacy series), and the confirmation that the kitty adventure game Stray is finally coming to Xbox this summer. One particular announcement stood out above the rest though, and that was the teaser for Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth, which will be Annapurna’s first internally developed game.

As Polygon reports, the last time we saw a new non-VR Blade Runner game was over 25 years ago, with the release of the point-and-click adventure title, Blade Runner (1997) on PC. This game told an original story which took place at the same time as the first film.

Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth, on the other hand, will take fans to a new timeframe within the franchise - as its name suggests, it's set between the events of the first film and its 2017 sequel, Blade Runner 2049. Interestingly, its name would also suggest that it’ll take place right after the anime series, Blade Runner: Black Lotus, which was set in 2032, but it’s not been confirmed if 2033: Labyrinth’s plot will follow on from it. The synopsis simply states that it “takes place after the events of the Black Out”.
Other than that, we know very little about the story. On Steam, the official description states that the game will ask: “What does a Blade Runner do when there are no Replicants left to hunt?”
Right now, no release window has been confirmed for Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth, but it’ll be arriving on PC and consoles in the future.
