The Call of Duty franchise is one of the video game industry’s biggest money-makers, which is why we’ve seen a release pretty much on a year-on-year basis, other than one or two exceptions.
The success of Call of Duty is no doubt a major contributing factor as to why Microsoft is willing to pay an eye-watering $68.7 billion to acquire its publisher, Activision Blizzard. What’s more, its success is also why Sony has fought tooth and nail to ensure that it doesn't lose the Call of Duty series from its PlayStation consoles, which recently resulted in a binding agreement between Microsoft and Sony.

At this stage, it’s one of the worst-kept secrets that this year's Call of Duty entry will be the Modern Warfare III reboot. In recent weeks, we’ve had a returning villain all but confirmed as well as apparent leaks for its weapons and playable Operators.

However, in the latest potential Modern Warfare III speculation, Activision has seemingly confirmed that weapons, Operators and bundles will carry over from MWII into this year's entry.
This was suggested in a tweet from the official Call of Duty Twitter account asking fans if they’d like to see content carried over into the 2023 release. It’s perhaps worth keeping in mind that Modern Warfare III wasn't mentioned in the tweet, but with all the leaks and rumours, it’s a safe bet knowing what game is being talked about. Furthermore, social media accounts have reportedly been issued DMCA takedowns by Activision related to MWIII leaks.

If the content is to carry over into Modern Warfare III, it will be the first time that this has happened in a Call of Duty sequel. While we can only speculate, a reason for this could be due to recent rumours claiming that this year's Call of Duty was reportedly going to be an expansion to Modern Warfare II, which now looks like it may have evolved into its own standalone game. Either way, I’m sure there will be many fans happy not to lose items and progress with the new release.
At this time, Activision hasn't confirmed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, let alone announced a release date. That being said, hopefully, the publisher will reveal all in the coming weeks.
