CD Projekt spent over $120 million on saving Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 has officially been redeemed, thanks to continuous hard work from CD Projekt Red to fix the game and add new content fans have been dying to see since its launch.

The new DLC, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, brought an entirely new story expansion to the game, as well as the 2.0 Update, a gameplay overhaul that brought some much-needed changes to the base game.

Fans absolutely loved it, and many are saying Cyberpunk 2077 is now one of the best games ever made thanks to the fixes, and believe it to be proof the game should have been delayed further before it released in the state it did.

Now, a new report suggests CD Projekt Red spent a fortune on the game’s redemption, a whopping $120 million, over half of which was solely devoted to Phantom Liberty’s development.

The numbers come from CD Projekt Red themselves, who recently published them as part of an investor’s day. It’s stated that $85–$86 million was spent on creating and advertising Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, whereas $40–$41 million was spent on the 2.0 update.

It seemingly all paid off in the end, as sales for the game skyrocketed thanks to the expansion and update, and reviews for the game have drastically changed since its launch.

It’s even seemingly led to a full-on sequel, which is currently in development at CD Projekt Red, though shouldn’t be expected for a long, long time. Hopefully the developer gives the next game the time it needs, lest they repeat the same mistake they made with the first game.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is now available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
