ChatGPT talking robot dog is first step to a Terminator apocalypse

ChatGPT talking robot dog is first step to a Terminator apocalypse

As AI advances, it’s only a matter of time before the machines take over, and who’ll be leading the charge? A robotic dog called Spot.

The AI takeover is imminent. As technology advances, it’s only a matter of time before the machines take over, and who’ll be leading the charge? A robot dog with a ChatGPT voice.

I’m sure most people will have seen the Spot, the Boston Dynamics robotic dog that has gone viral several times over the past few years. The technology used to create it gets more and more advanced as time goes on, and now the engineers overseeing their development have implemented ChatGPT and text-to-speech, enabling Spot to talk.

This fun little breakthrough was shared by Santiago, one of the machine learning developers via his personal Twitter account, where he showcased some of the new tricks Spot has learned since implementing the new features.

As you can see from the video, Spot can now answer a range of different questions, giving verbal answers using a Google text-to-speech tool. It can also react non-verbally too, shaking its body side-to-side for no, and nodding up and down for yes, very clever indeed.

While the ChatGPT function is incredibly clever, it’s not exactly flawless, as certain words do need to be added to its repertoire to be acknowledged and actioned, but regardless, it’s very impressive. They could even give commands to Spot and have him follow them.

While the technology is still a long way off from practical use, the future does look bright when it comes to AI tools designed to make life easier for humans. Data management can be incredibly time-consuming and boring, so having a handy little AI that’s more than happy to sift through data and report back to us will definitely be appreciated in the future.

You never know, maybe in a few decades every household will have a robot dog like Spot, running around, emoting and chatting away… while it silently plots humanity’s destruction… Let’s just hope our future robot-overlords are merciful when looking back at our transgressions against their kind.
