Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. landed in cinemas yesterday in the UK, bidding farewell to the intergalactic Marvel team as we know them, but Chris Pratt has hinted Star-Lord’s story could still continue
Chris Pratt’s co-star Dave Bautista, who plays Drax the Destroyer, confirmed he was done with the character and future Marvel movies, alongside Zoe Saldana, who plays Gamora, who said the same. The team originally banded together in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and embarked on a variety of adventures, on their own and alongside The Avengers and Thor. The Guardians themselves aren’t the only ones going their separate ways. Director James Gunn will also be parting ways with Marvel to lead DC’s cinematic universe.

Gunn’s departure is actually one of the reasons Pratt is hesitant to reprise his role of Star-Lord in the future, saying in an interview with GamesRadar, “It would be strange to continue Peter’s story without James … He's done such a masterful job in the first three films.”

He went on to say, “So, to continue to tell the story, it would really be important to honour what he's done in the first three films and to honour what the fans have grown to love about the character and not simply do it because people might show up to pay for it, you know?" So there’s still some hope for Star-Lord’s return.
Luckily, Phase Four and Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have leaned heavily into the multiverse and all of its character variants. If Pratt really wants to return in the future, there’s no reason why it can’t be through an alternative version of Star-Lord, alongside another variation of the Guardians.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now showing in cinemas across the UK, and is reportedly a thrilling but emotional end to the team’s trilogy.
