Cyberpunk 2077’s grand comeback story continues, as its anime adaptation just won Anime of the Year at Crunchyroll’s annual Anime Awards.
We all know how the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 went, but in a word - poorly. CD Projekt Red had promised some big things in the buildup to the game’s launch, and the disappointing final result that gamers were met with back in December 2020, complete with bugs, glitches and floating cars, didn’t go down positively.

Since then though, the game has received several big updates, and managed to gain a lot of popularity thanks to the release of its Netflix anime adaptation, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. It was nominated for the Best Adaptation award at The Game Awards last year, but lost to Arcane: League of Legends. Now though, as Polygon reports, it’s the series’ time to shine thanks to its big win at the Anime Awards.

Edgerunners had some fierce competition for Anime of the Year - the other nominees were SPY x FAMILY, Lycoris Recoil, Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Entertainment District Arc, and Ranking of Kings (Cour 2).

It’s a very exciting time for Cyberpunk 2077 fans. A DLC expansion for the game, titled Phantom Liberty, is currently in the works, as is a currently untitled sequel. Phantom Liberty is set to release sometime in 2023.
