Die Hard Trilogy needs a remake, fans agree

Clearly, remakes are all the rage right now and I shouldn’t expect that trend to end anytime soon given how popular and successful they’re proving to be.

If you take a look at the best-rated releases of the year so far, the vast majority are remakes and remasters. We’ve had the stellar Metroid Prime Remastered, Resident Evil 4, and Dead Space. Fans have plenty of ideas about what they’d like to see next. Dino Crisis is an ever-popular choice. Two remake projects that we know are on the way are the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Now though, fans have suggested Die Hard Trilogy as a possibility too.

Based on the first three films in the Die Hard series, the aptly titled Die Hard Trilogy was released on the PlayStation 1 all the way back in 1996, with a PC and SEGA Saturn release following in 1997. That officially makes Die Hard Trilogy one year older than me. A staple of the PS1 era, the game was split into Die Hard, Die Hard 2: Die Harder and Die Hard with a Vengeance (This series isn’t known for its creative titles, clearly).

Over on Reddit, fans gathered to share their fondness for this somewhat forgotten title. User toddles84 wrote, “I can’t think of another game that included three different gaming genres with each one being incredibly fun to play. My favorite was driving the taxi through New York disarming bombs. But I also loved how you could use a Guncon for Die Hard 2,” while MetallicMessiah added, “I spent an unreasonable amount of time playing this.”

Realbonito23 said, “Oh, man. The ‘light gun’ portion of this (Die Hard 2) was awesome. I still think it's one of the greatest light gun games of all-time. Like, top five. It's fun-as-hell. But nobody knows about it.” Maybe one day we’ll get that well-deserved remake.
