The sequel to Doctor Strange didn’t seem to really strike a chord with some when it released back in May. Boasting a rather unimpressive Metacritic score of 60 (and a perfectly balanced user score of 6.0), many criticised the film for its heavy inclusion of fan service.
There’s no doubt that fan service can be fun though, and the introduction of the Illuminati was definitely one of the movie’s highlights. Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) made the appearance we all saw coming, along with Reed Richards (John Krasiniski), Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell), Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch), and also Black Bolt (Anson Mount).

Black Bolt’s screen time, like all but one of the other Illuminati members, was short lived, after being abruptly taken out by the Scarlet Witch. But, as The Direct reports, actor Anson Mount has expressed his interest in returning to the role again.
On Twitter, Best Entertainment Reviews’ Daniel Rasmus revealed that he’d had a chat with the actor during San Diego Comic Con, in which Rasmus told him he “had hopes of an MCU Black Bolt”, and Mount replied: “From your lips to gods ears.” That certainly implies that he has hopes, too.
The actor has previously conveyed his gratitude for being included in the movie: “Getting the call from [Kevin Feige] was one of the most unexpected of my life,” he tweeted in May. “It was an [honour and] joy to finally work [with] Sam [Raimi] who reached out to engage me on how best to do this. Beyond grateful for the experience.”
Given that Black Bolt’s death in Multiverse of Madness took place on Earth-838, a different universe to Earth-616 which we normally see in the Marvel movies, the character could very easily be brought back again, as he’s not actually been killed off in the ‘regular’ MCU world. That’s the power of the multiverse, baby.
