Doctor Strange 2 somehow wins movie of the year at People's Choice Awards

This is me being... unreasonable.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a film that I fully forgot came out this year, triumphed over favourites to score The Movie of 2022 award at the E! People's Choice Awards.

To be transparent, its competition comprised Bullet Train, Elvis, Jurassic World Dominion, Nope, The Batman, Thor: Love and Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick. Each to their own, of course, but there are a few films in that list that are arguably and objectively better than Doctor Strange 2. That's your cue to tell me that people like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis, you can’t trust people, Imogen. Elizabeth Olsen also snagged the awards for The Female Movie Star of 2022 and The Action Movie Star of 2022 at the event, which again, I would have liked to see Keke Palmer and Joey King win for their performances in Nope and Bullet Train respectively.

Earlier this year, Ewan got the chance to chat to director Sam Raimi about his interpretation of the infinite variations that an individual might experience in a multiverse situation. "It came to a creative act of being finite in our definition of our universe, and then establishing where the next universe might begin - and within all those fields it became a question of definition," explained Raimi. "And I used all the brains of all my great department heads from photography to production design and sound to help delineate one universe from another."

Indeed, Doctor Strange 2's visuals set it apart from standard MCU fare and offered the foundations for things like Werewolf by Night. Going forward, we might start to see a tonal shift in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, given the rumours that Daredevil: Born Again might be getting an "R" rating.
