Well, I guess the hierarchy of power in the DC universe changed after all. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has confirmed that Black Adam will not be moving ahead in the rebooted DC cinematic universe as planned.
If you're only just tuning in, the movie arm of DC is in the middle of a major renovation. It can't have escaped your attention over the last year or so that Warner Bros. has taken a fairly scattershot approach to building its MCU rival, and we've now reached critical mass.
Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn was recently enlisted to work his magic on the DCU, and that essentially involves ripping everything up and starting again. That means Henry Cavill is out as Superman, Wonder Woman 3 has been canned, and the Aquaman franchise is almost certainly dead too.

Black Adam, DC's most recent movie, was clearly intended to be a shot at redemption for the cinematic universe in its current state. Johnson was adamant his antihero would be crucial to the company's plans going forward, and a post-credits scene even reintroduced Cavill's Superman for all of two minutes.
Unfortunately, after 15 years of working to get Black Adam off the ground, we probably shouldn't expect a sequel anytime soon.
In a new statement, Johnson said that he had met with Gunn and was told Black Adam doesn't fit into their "their first chapter of storytelling." While DC will continue working with Black Adam and look at ways to maybe bring the character to "future DC multiverse chapters," I wouldn't hold your breath.
"James Gunn and I connected, and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling," reads Johnson's statement. "However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters. James and I have known each other for years and have always rooted for each other to succeed. It's no different now, and I will always root for DC (and Marvel) to win and WIN BIG."
