Xbox users should be prepared for another server shutdown for a beloved game later this year, especially those who are true achievement hunters.
After Xbox revealed that April would see the end of Madden NFL 20 and Warface: Breakout's servers with those set to shut down on 15 April and 30 April respectively, the company has added another title to the ever-growing pile.

A recent report reveals that EA is set to shutdown NHL 20 servers this September. The servers will close on 16 September according to EA's online service page and will spell the end for players who wish to achieve the game’s 22 online-only achievements. As a result, the game will no longer be available to play online for users on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

With a bunch of achievements set to be discontinued with the server’s end, those who wish to get them have just a few months to do so. It is also worth mentioning that there are already three achievements unable to achieve in NHL 20 after they were discontinued back in 2020. However, the 22 online-only achievements are still up for grabs for now.
Since the announcement, NHL 20 has been removed from the Xbox store meaning that those who wish to earn the achievements and don’t already have the game will have to purchase a physical copy.
The hockey simulation game was first released back in 2019 and despite being part of a generally well-received series, only managed to reach an abysmal 3.9 user rating on Metacritic. Considering its less than smooth reception, it is perhaps no surprise that its servers will be shutting down later this year.
