Elden Ring fans, do not sleep on this new fantasy RPG

Elden Ring fans, do not sleep on this new fantasy RPG

This has got 'Soulslike' written all over it

After being shown off during Xbox’s partner broadcast, this new game has Elden Ring fans begging for more. Soulslike has become a runaway genre with many games entering the space and seeing success.

The First Berzerker: Khazan is one such game and it looks to be checking off several boxes and finding itself placed in the genre which is often described as featuring “hardcore action” which is probably marketing speak for ‘controller-bustingly difficult’. Having watched the trailer several times, it’s clear to see the potential for this one as it mashes together the iconic combat of a Soulslike with a lush graphical style.

The Soulslike genre was perfected with Elden Ring but continues to receive new titles

Taking place in NEXON’s DNF (Dungeon and Fighter) universe, The First Berzerker: Khazan will swap the fighting game genre for an action-adventure. “The player will become Khazan, the great general of the Pell Los Empire, who overcame death, and sets out to reveal the incidents that led to his downfall and seek vengeance on his enemies.” The action-packed trailer showcases some bombastic abilities and fighting styles that slam their way home into a variety of enemies, bursting with gouts of blood. It’s odd to see this anime-style of visuals attached to a hardcore title, but it fits wonderfully and gives the game a definite style of its own.

Taking on a very different art style to most games of this ilk, the action seems to border real-world details and comic book gore turned up to eleven. It’s clear this will be another game to master for those who enjoy the difficulty curves of FromSoftware titles. The trailer shows brutal action, perfect parries, and hulking creatures to overcome in a dark world where everyone seems like they’re usually off brooding in the corner.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a solid release date for this one, but it’s likely we’ll find out more over the summer.
