Elden Ring meets Valheim in sprawling new open-world RPG

Elden Ring meets Valheim in sprawling new open-world RPG

Featuring "Jaw-dropping" landscapes

You're going to want to keep an eye on this upcoming open-world adventure. There are underwater scenes, large mountainous landscapes stretching as far as the eye can see, and fields with swaying foliage reacting to the presence of our protagonist.

Towers of Aghasba is certainly wearing its inspirations clearly. There's a dash of Elden Ring in its bleaker moments, a dollop of Valheim in the mythology, legends of the land, and base-building, plus there's a spoonful of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on show too.

Take a look at the game in action below.

There's not a vast amount of information out there about Towers of Aghasba. The Steam page has a lovely trailer, alongside some stills grabbed from it and it's blurb is simple, "Towers of Aghasba, an open-world experience where players can build vast settlements and grow sprawling ecosystems on their fantasy island."

There's no release date for the game, only a vague window of summer 2024, but what we see here does show some promise. There's a moment in the trailer where we see our hero gliding among huge creatures, setting a pretty epic scene. Biomes on display are reminiscent of Horizon Zero Dawn, or feature the abandoned aesthetic of post-apocalyptic world, featuring devastated wastelands that require a hand in replenishing.

A large focus of the game is in recreating the villages that were once lost to time and while it doesn't look like you build them brick by brick, it will offer a sense of personality in the villages you create - as the synopsis says, "Express your creativity by developing your island however you’d like, explore the whimsical land of Aghasba, and connect with friends to show off your unique world!"

You can mark this as 'one to watch'.
