Elden Ring sequel could be near, as FromSoftware tease 'frequent' releases

An Elden Ring follow-up may not be too far away as FromSoftware tease more ‘frequent’ game releases.

An Elden Ring follow-up may not be too far away as FromSoftware have teased more ‘frequent’ game releases.

Yesterday, we got our first proper look as well as a release date for FromSoftware’s next title, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. Releasing this year, Fires of Rubicon will see the popular mech-shooter series return after a 10-year-long hiatus. Despite having success with the Armored Core series in the years prior, FromSoftware arguably began its ascension to video game greatness with the release of Demon’s Souls in 2009. However, some might also argue that it was Dark Souls in 2011 that changed the game for the Japanese studio.

Take a look at Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon in action below.

Over the years, FromSoftware has kept a relatively tight schedule, releasing games from various series’ every two to three years. The last major release from the studio was the critically acclaimed Elden Ring in 2022. Then we have Armored Core VI this August, just over a year apart from each other. You might be hard-pressed to find anyone that is disgruntled with the release schedule of FromSoftware, other than perhaps the developers themselves. As reported by TheGamer, the studio has teased that it wants to release new titles on a more regular basis going forward.

When speaking to Eurogamer, Armored Core VI producer Yasuhiro Kitao was asked whether the release of the mech shooter and the launch of the upcoming Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, is a sign of things to come with the studio developing more than one game at a time.

“This is a philosophy of ours that really hasn't changed all that much in the past ten years, particularly since Miyazaki has been president of the company,” said Kitao. “This is an area we feel we've always strived to achieve: always making something new, always making something original, something that we find interesting and fun as players. So in this sense, really nothing much has changed. We do develop multiple titles simultaneously, we do have several teams working on different projects. We hope to stagger our releases and bring something new and exciting at hopefully not-so-long intervals going forward.”

What’s more, the aforementioned Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, might be releasing sooner than we expected. In an article from GamesRadar, it is believed that the DLC began its development after the main game launched in February 2022.

FromSoftware hasn't announced a release date for Shadow of the Erdree at the time of writing, but it is expected to arrive sometime this year. In related Elden Ring news, a very impressive player has defeated Malenia, Blade of Miquella in a world-record time.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon will be released for PC, PlayStation and Xbox on 25 August 2023.
