We could have seen a “BioShock style” Vault, featuring an enormous octopus guarding its entrance, in Fallout 4. If you subscribe to the theory of the multiverse, it does exist somewhere out there, but it’s a shame we’ll never get to experience it.
In a Reddit Ask Me Anything session, Todd Howard shone a light on a number of Bethesda games both past and present. For example, Starfield lets the player select skills and a backstory at the character creation stage, as well as choosing your character’s pronouns. And, don’t fret, there’s support for mods so you’ll be able to swap your android companions out for Bender from Futurama and 2B from NieR: Automata.
If you prefer dungeons and dragons to dark matter and dwarf stars, then you’re out of luck, because there wasn’t much that Howard could share on The Elder Scrolls VI. You’re not the only one tearing your hair out over the radio silence on the game — his son sent him a Father's Day card asking, "You're an amazing Dad, but where's TES6?"

Some of the most priceless nuggets to be mined from the AMA are from the studio’s previous portfolio of titles. One fan brought up the fact that a lot of Fallout 4’s world is underwater and inquired whether there was a reason for that choice. “Unfortunate cut content,” explained Howard of the swathes of map under the briny blue. “BioShock style Vault. With massive sentient octopus living outside it.”
That. Sounds. Sick. Players leapt on the idea and immediately sketched out humorous intentions to mod it into the game. I’m not sure whether the octopus would be a character comparable to Harold from Fallout 3, the human who eventually mutated to become the Great One worshipped by the Treeminders. Or, this creature could have been an enemy to best in either a battle of wits or brawn to enter the Vault and discover its tragic story as it evolved beyond other octopi, leaving it alone in the sea.

Now I’m sad. Well, if we learn more about any of these efforts to bring back the octopus and their Vault to the Commonwealth, we’ll let you know.
