Fallout: Vault 1080 is an excellent Resident Evil-inspired horror

Enter the world of survival horror in Fallout 4

Usually, when you think of Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic Fallout series, horror may not be the first thing that comes to mind but this mod may change that.

Come to think of it, the Fallout series has dabbled in horror from time to time such as the Point Lookout DLC for Fallout 3 or the Far Harbor DLC for Fallout 4. So hopefully when Bethesda finally releases Fallout 5, we might be treated to some spine-tingling horror wherever that time might arrive. Speaking of which, Fallout 5 won't arrive until after The Elder Scrolls VI, which could be years away itself.

Check out the Fallout 4 ‘Vault 1080’ below!

Thankfully, until the likes of Fallout 5 or The Elder Scrolls VI arrive, the fantastic modding community has us covered with a wealth of free content whether it's adding new quests to a game, visual and gameplay improvements or bug fixes, and Fallout 4 is no exception. Fallout 4 was initially released in 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, we are getting a free Fallout 4 new-gen upgrade this year for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, so we can’t wait for that.

Going back to the topic at hand, one such mod seemingly takes inspiration from Capcom’s survival horror series, Resident Evil. That mod is ‘Vault 1080’ created by Ex0dus13 on behalf of Nvidia, and it’s free to download now via Nexusmods.

The ‘Vault 1080’ brings a new quest with new areas to explore including a cave, church, marsh and of course a vault totalling up to an estimated extra hour's worth of gameplay. Which isn't bad for free, if you ask me.

“Vault 1080 mod leads you through a foggy, murky marsh to the ruins of an old church. Bright shafts of light guide you through the shadows to Vault 1080, which contains three large levels of buried secrets and hidden horrors,” reads the description of the mod. “Uncover the story of a misguided congregation that embraced darkness and sickness in order to survive, and judge for yourself whether monsters deserve salvation.”

At this time, the ‘Vault 1080’ mod is only available on the PC version of Fallout 4, but when the new-gen update finally drops, hopefully, that will change. Fallout 4 is out now on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It’s also backwards compatible with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. What’s more, it’s available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers at no extra cost.
