Far Cry 7 release date is a very promising sign for fans

Far Cry 7’s rumoured release window is looking very promising and fans should be excited.

Far Cry 7’s rumoured release window is looking very promising, and fans should be excited.

The last entry in the series was 2021’s Far Cry 6. While not a bad game, it was very, let’s say, Far Cry. For years the series has pretty much been following the same format and can be considered to be playing it a bit safe.

That being said, it still earned a decent Metacritic score averaging in the lower 70s. It was also nominated for three awards at The Game Awards 2021 including ‘Best Innovation in Accessibility', ‘Best Action Game’ and finally ‘Best Performance’ for the brilliant Giancarlo Esposito as Antón Castillo.

Despite not winning any major Game of the Year awards, that didn't stop Ubisoft from releasing Far Cry 6: Game of the Year Edition. Still, if you enjoy the Far Cry formula, there’s plenty of over-the-top fun to be had in the sixth mainline entry.

At the time of writing, Ubisoft hasn't announced the next game in the series. However, perhaps Ubisoft is waiting to announce Far Cry 7 during the upcoming Forward event this June.

What’s more, as reported by Comicbook.com, it’s been speculated by a known insider named “Script” on Twitter that Far Cry 7 hasn't started its development yet or at the very least: “is extremely early in development.”

Script was also responding to a series of questions by followers and one mentioned a report from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, claiming that both Far Cry 7, as well as a Far Cry multiplayer, is currently in development.

Script then went on to compare the difference between theirs and Henderson’s source of information. “Henderson is an insider, we are data miners :) From everything we can see, development has not started or just recently started (<3 months),” they tweeted.

This in turn triggered a response from Tom Henderson, instructing Scripts to be careful how they phrase their tweets.

“In the future, I would be careful about how you phrase your tweets then because your tweet is very misleading IMO,” replied Henderson. “Just because you cannot access information on a game from the Ubi store (or wherever you get it from) doesn't mean it's not in development. Keep up the good work! :)”

Usually, when not taking into account spin-off Far Cry games such as Blood Dragon, Primal, and New Dawn, other than the exception of FC3 to FC4, a new mainline game in the series often releases every three to four years.

Comicbook.com speculates that if the information from Script is true, it’s likely that Far Cry 7 won’t arrive until 2026 at the earliest, which would be a minimum of a five-year wait.

While waiting at least five years for the next mainline game in the series could be worrying for some, it can also be considered a promising sign for fans knowing that FC7 might be having extra development time, which can only be a good thing in my opinion. It’s also likely that Ubisoft might release another spin-off between now and then.

Of course, whether you believe Scripts or Henderson, we should always take unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. In recent news, Far Cry 5 has received a new-gen update improving the game with a 4K resolution at 60fps.
