The Fast & Furious finale is a trilogy, says the star of the franchise, Vin Diesel.

The tenth entry is this long-running street racing, action speed-induced romp that is nearly upon us with Fast X arriving in cinemas in just a few short days.

This beloved movie franchise began with somewhat humble beginnings in 2001 when the focus was mostly about racing and family. Well, the latter is still apparent because it seems that series protagonist Dom Torretto is on some kind of commission for the amount of times he says the word “family” throughout this series.

Judging by the pre-release trailers, it seems that Fast X is gearing up for the series finale and some fans may be worried that this will be the last movie in the franchise. Though I’m sure we can bet our family houses that they’ll be a spin-off or reboot in the future when its current story comes to its conclusion.

Thankfully, for those fans that are concerned that Fast X is the final entry, then fear not. As reported by IGN (via Fandango), when asked during the Rome premiere whether this will be the last movie, Vin Diesel teased: “You want to allow people to enjoy the film without tipping the hat too much.” He added: “Going into making this movie the studio had asked if this could be a two-parter, and after the studio saw this part one they said 'could you make Fast X, the finale, a trilogy?'”

Vin Diesel’s co-star, Michelle Rodriguez who plays Letty Ortiz, then threw her own spanner into the rumour mill teasing “It’s 3x in a story” and then as the duo walked away, they were asked if they just confirmed two more movies, Vin Diesel concluded: “I don’t want to get in trouble here.”

At the end of the day, we’ve probably got as much of a chance of seeing more Fast & Furious movies as the likelihood of Dom saying “family” in Fast X. Nonetheless, it will be nice to get official confirmation in the coming weeks.

In related news, a Fast X video game has recently been released and Vin Diesel compared his franchise to J.R.R Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Fast X releases in cinemas on 19 May 2023.
