Fast and Furious Vin Diesel, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham have signed an ‘equal pain’ clause.

Fast and Furious is one of the most popular action movie series of all time, bringing in a reported combined box office revenue of $6 billion. A large part of its success is the simplistic story beats, over-the-top set pieces and its draw of Hollywood actors to star in the latest flick.

Those that star in any Fast and Furious entry will likely be paid big bucks, especially when featuring big names such as the aforementioned Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, as well as Brie Larson, Helen Mirren, Michelle Rodriguez and so forth.

However, as reported by our friends at UNILAD, it seems that some actors, namely Diesel, Johnson and Statham all have some rather unusual contract clauses. Apparently, the trio have what is called an ‘equal pain’ clause. Which in a nutshell, means that they must all sustain the same amount of pain as each other.

It’s reported that this unusual clause can be traced back to what was featured in an article from the Wall Street Journal. The story goes that Vin Diesel was worried that his character, Dominic Toretto, was being punched too much by Jason Statham’s character, Deckard Shaw.

Reportedly, in 2015’s Furious 7, Diesel wanted the crew to count how many punches each of their characters were landing so that the balance would eventually be made even. Yes, really. To be honest, it sounds a lot like when I was a child playing soldiers and I’d argue with a friend over who shot who.

However, Vin Diesel’s suggestion of punches being counted was rejected and instead evolved into the ‘equal pain’ clause. It’s a good job Vin Diesel isn't a member of the Jackass crew.

In related news, Vin Diesel and co-star Michelle Rodriguez may have teased that Fast X could be the start of a finale trilogy. Fast X releases in cinemas on 19 May 2023.
