Final Fantasy XVI players are reporting their PS5 consoles are overheating during particularly intense gameplay moments.
Final Fantasy fans have been patiently awaiting the release of Square Enix’s next entry in the series, and so far they haven’t been disappointed. Final Fantasy XVI has been described as the biggest reason to get a PS5, with stunning visuals, a great story and rejuvenated gameplay. We described the title as an “epic adventure with flamboyance and style” in our review, which you should definitely check out. However, some players are reporting the new RPG is proving to be too much for their PS5 consoles, causing it to overheat and crash during certain boss fights.

As reported by Twisted Voxel, Twitter user @TheSphereHunter shared their experience on Twitter after getting to play the game early, saying that a boss fight caused their console to switch itself off mid-fight. The player said: “I’m playing a game that isn’t out yet, where a boss fight made my PS5 overheat so much that it just turned off completely at the end of the fight.” They went on to warn other players about cleaning their consoles prior to playing, saying, “So if you guys plan on buying any new games in the near future for a day 1 PS5, make sure you clean it out thoroughly.”
They weren’t the only ones who reported issues either, as several forums have encountered the same problem. Users on the ResetEra forum shared their technical difficulties while asking for potential fixes for the problem. “Well, I can say I never had this problem with a console before … For most games, it's not much of an issue. But Octopath 2 and recently the XVI demo just overheat[ed] the system entirely, so I've realised it's time to get the dust out," one user wrote. “I have the same problem. Also Octopath 2 and FF XVI," another added.

Luckily, cleaning a PS5 console is easier than it sounds, and the system will usually be as good as new once any excess dust has been removed from the vents. Remember to keep your consoles clean gamers! Final Fantasy XVI was officially released earlier today exclusively for the PlayStation 5. The title will be a timed exclusive, meaning it’ll make its way onto PC at some point in the future.
