Forget Excalibur’s Sword in the Stone, Clive's sword at the Tower of London is where it’s at!
Announced by Square Enix in September 2020, fans have been patiently awaiting the next numbered release of the iconic RPG franchise. Final Fantasy XVI will be a standalone tale centred around the protagonist named Clive Rosefield.
Without giving too much away for spoiler purposes, it’s fair to say that Clive is a very powerful being indeed with inherited mystical powers used to defeat the forces of evil. However, Clive wouldn't get very far in defeating his foes without his loyal companions at his side and without wielding his trusty Invictus sword.
In most cases, we’d have to make do with marvelling at Clive’s long sword (stop being dirty) when playing Final Fantasy XVI. Yet, what if we could marvel at Clive's sword in real life? Well, fans of the Square Enix series will get that very opportunity if they are able to visit the Tower of London in the UK.

From today (20 June) to 19 July 2023, for the first time ever, a sword from a video game will be displayed alongside the company of armour and weaponry owned by the Royalty of yesteryear. Sadly, you won’t be able to wield the sword for yourself, otherwise, you’d probably get arrested. Still, it will be a fantastic day out for fans of the RPG series able to visit London within the next few weeks.
“Clive’s Invictus sword from Final Fantasy XVI is on display in the White Tower in the Tower of London until July 19th,” reads a tweet from Square Enix. “Huge thanks to @Royal_Armouries, a world-renowned museum that houses the United Kingdom’s national collection of arms and armour.”
