Gamer Continues PlayStation Session As His Apartment Burns Down

There's nothing quite like losing yourself in a properly engrossing video game, is there? When the hours just seem to fly by as you allow the incredible characters, worlds, and stories completely wash over you. It's a blissful stuff - but not without its dangers.

No matter how absorbed you might find yourself in a game, it's probably always a good idea to continue paying at least a little attention to the outside world. Maybe somebody needs to contact you in case of emergency, for example. Maybe there's somebody at the door with a delivery. Or maybe your apartment is burning down because you've left the stove on.

Okay, so I admit that last one is pretty unlikely to happen... apart from the fact it absolutely did happen to one unlucky gamer recently.

As reported by German newspaper Soester Anzeiger, a man in Soest, West Germany nearly died from smoke inhalation and took his entire apartment building with him. And all because he was too busy playing PlayStation to notice the smoke alarm going off. Or, indeed, the actual smoke.

According to reports, the gamer was shocked when the fire department busted in to his apartment, which by this point was so filled with smoke it was starting to resemble a Prince music video. He was so into his gaming session that he had completely forgotten to check his spaghetti sauce, which had started to burn and cause the fire.

Officials claim nearby residents reported the smoke, and it's a good thing they did. We're lucky that this is just a dumb story in which nobody got hurt. It could have had a much more tragic ending.

Moral of the story? If you're going to cook while you game, make sure to set some alarms.
