Vertigo Games has released more gameplay footage of After The Fall during the Summer of Gaming showcase, and this apocalyptic shooter is giving us undeniable Left 4 Dead energy.

"Set in the ice-covered ruins of 1980s LA nearly 20 years after the apocalypse, After the Fall combines an evolving VR world shared with players on all platforms with action-packed co-op gameplay, built from the ground up for VR," explained the studio in the official description for the game. Yes, that's compatibility across PlayStation VR, HTC Viveport, Oculus Quest, and Valve Index and a maximum of four players are able to group up and take on the terrifying Snowbreed creatures.

It's all very well and good me telling you about the game, but I always recommend getting a glimpse of virtual reality titles like these for yourself. Take a gander at the new gameplay for After The Fall plus behind-the-scenes chats with the team here.

So they're not quite zombies, but they're close enough, if you ask me. There are even different types of enemy depending on how this infection has transformed the body of its host. These facts, combined with the chaotic and heart-thudding co-op excursions, means that those of us who like virtual reality and are hankering for a new, gripping horror experience should keep an eye out for After The Fall.

"You, the player, are a Harvest Runner, one of the few who are courageous enough to venture out into the cold," elaborated TamTu Bui, community manager at Vertigo Games, earlier this month.

"With your squad of fellow Runners you'll jump into the containment sites that are filled to the brim with Snowbreed. People in the various settlements in LA rely on you to enter these monster infested zones in order to bring in the resources required to keep the lights on back at the Line. In return, you are rewarded with bigger and better guns to go back in for this satisfying loop of taking out Snowbreed. It's not an easy job, and only Harvest Runners can tackle the different dangers that these Snowbreed embody."

These special types of Snowbreed comprise the bulky Eater who will explode and decimate its enemies, the Juggernaut who deals out one-hit knockouts and the Smasher who swipes at humans with its crystallised right arm like an extremely ugly cat. So, that's the Boomer, the Tank, and the Charger from Left 4 Dead. Yeah, the similarities are there, but that's not a bad thing. If I remember correctly, a lot of people liked Valve's multiplayer survival horror, and resurrecting it in 2021 in a new format is surely worth a whirl.
