The need for Creed.

Ubisoft is planning a very different kind of Assassin's Creed game, according to a new report. Reliable leaker j0nathan, who has shared a ton of accurate information about Assassin's Creed Valhalla and its DLC in the past, made a couple of interesting claims recently.

In a new video (via Reddit), he suggested that Ubisoft Sofia is - or at least was at some point - working on an Assassin's Creed spinoff that was closer in style to Naughty Dog's Uncharted series. According to the leaker, it would have been completely unlike Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla, offering up a more linear experience. The game would have been made up of individual levels that were just big enough to feel like mini open worlds.

Take a look at some of the fun things you can do in Assassin's Creed Valhalla below!

j0nathan goes on to reveal that this Ubisoft Sofia-developed spinoff was the rumoured Assassin's Creed game set (at least partly) during the Third Crusade. Players would take on the role of Richard the Lionheart's bodyguard, protecting the king on a journey through the crusade and back to the UK. It also sounds as if the story would have had us playing as male and female characters, with their paths converging at some point in the adventure.

The bad news for those of you who love the sound of this, is that the project is apparently on hold. According to j0nathan, Ubisoft Sofia has been moved to work on a new, third major expansion for Assassin's Creed Valhalla due to the most recent game's massive popularity. It's unclear if Ubisoft Sofia will get to return to work on this spinoff, or if whatever ideas the studio had for it will be used in the Valhalla expansion. Given what we've heard about the spinoff, here's hoping it's the former.

As it stands, it sounds like we won't be getting this third expansion until January 2022. Ubisoft has two major expansions planned for Valhalla before that. The first, Wrath Of The Druids, takes players to Ireland and is available later this month. The second, Siege Of Paris, whisks us off to the city of love towards the end of the year. Ubisoft previously gave a vague summer release window, but j0nathan believes it'll drop in September.
