I sense a disturbance in the Norse.

Raise a mug of mead to Assassin's Creed Valhalla, because it seems that Ubisoft's open-world Viking RPG has absolutely smashed it. According to the publisher, the latest entry in the long-running franchise has "sold more units in its first week" than any of its predecessors, making it the biggest Assassin's Creed launch in history.

As if that wasn't impressive enough, Valhalla also enjoyed the biggest launch on PC for a Ubisoft game ever. While Ubisoft didn't share specific numbers at this early stage, having the biggest launch in one of the most well-known AAA franchise is obviously a huge deal. On a personal note, Valhalla is the most fun I've had with an Assassin's Creed game in years, so it's great to see it doing so well.

In lieu of any sales stats, Ubisoft did share some fun gameplay figures via a press release. Collectively players have covered more than 4 million kilometers while exploring England and Norway. An incredible 55 million settlement buildings have also been unlocked, and over 1.8 million players have won at least one virtual drinking game since launch.

"We are truly delighted by the enthusiastic response from players and want to thank the fans for their incredible support. Delivering this game amid a global pandemic was a true tour de force by our teams and it's fantastic to see players enjoying the game so much," said Julien Laferrière, producer on Assassin's Creed Valhalla. "Launch is only the beginning and we have robust content plans for Assassin's Creed Valhalla that will keep players immersed in their epic Viking saga for a long time to come."

Ubisoft previously announced its post-launch plans for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and it includes a decent mix of free and paid content. The most significant content comes as part of the Valhalla season pass, which is made up of two major expansions that will include Ireland and Paris respectively.

There's also plenty of free seasonal content on the horizon. Season 1 kicks off the post-launch content in December with a new settlement area, a traditional Viking Yule festival, river raids, and additional ranks and abilities. Ubisoft also confirmed second and third seasons of free content, but details on those are scarce right now. Suffice to say if you're enjoying the Viking action, it looks like there's plenty more to come.
