This mod for Battlefield 3 makes the game look simply stunning, with "a complete gameplay and UI overhaul that creates a more tactical and meaningful experience."

Released in 2011, Battlefield 3 uses the Frostbite 2 engine, and it added a lot to the series. It let EA DICE bring "enhanced in-game destruction" and "more refined physics" to the experience of playing a Battlefield title, and the realism of the environments was praised in the single player and multiplayer elements. It might not have been the best Battlefield entry, but the visual sparkle and improvements to the immersion earned it a special place in the hearts of fans.

However, there's been some time between now and then, and a whole new Frostbite engine has been made in the interim. As a result, Battlefield 3 still looks good, but it doesn't look good. You know what I mean? Sometimes, when you're replaying a game and it looks just like you remember it, it's a bit of a Pandora's box. But, a team of modders have been beavering away on BF3: Reality Mod, which upgrades the game's graphics thoroughly while using the Frostbite 2 engine.

"Inspired by BF2's famous mod Project Reality, this [mod] aims to create a more immersive experience than vanilla BF3 with more realistic mechanics and a bigger focus on teamwork and squadwork," said the team on the mod's official page. "To achieve this, a lot of parts of the game have been modified or, in some cases, completely redone like the UI." Not only this, but it also adds a custom mumble client so that players may chat with their teammates with voice over internet protocol, through radio channels or proximity voice.

Battlefield 3 might not be the most popular game out there right now, but the reception for the mod has been nothing short of ecstatic. After months of time and effort spent on the project, that must be music to the team's ears. All players will require to get this show on the road is a copy of Battlefield 3 plus its Back to Karkand, Close Quarters, Armored Kill, Aftermath, and End Game DLCs. And, it's compatible with both Steam and EA Play versions of the original game.

With the mod approaching the finishing line, those who are interested in downloading the mod upon its launch should join the team's Discord server. The mod will require some testing while in early access, and players are encouraged to sign up to get involved.
