Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is bringing back the hugely popular Prestige system, and it's making a number of changes that hardcore fans should be pretty pleased with.

While 2019's Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and battle royale spinoff Warzone didn't feature Prestige in any way, Treyarch confirmed in a recent blog post that the classic system has been revived for the 2020 shooter. It was also confirmed that Prestige is changing to allow for way more levelling, meaning you can rank up a lot more without resetting your gear.

"We've heard from countless community members who live for the grind, Treyarch wrote. "Putting in the time and effort to earn unique Prestige Icons with each new milestone and showing off their Prestige Level to the rest of the world. We know the thrill of chasing the coveted title of Prestige Master, and the bragging rights that come along with it with each new game.

"We've also seen a significant portion of players - including veterans of the Black Ops series who've been with us for a long time - who often choose not to Prestige because they don't want to lose access to the Create-a-Class content that they worked so hard to unlock by reaching level 55. Plus, with post-launch Seasons now delivering their own leveling paths in Warzone, we've heard from players who want to see their progress continue across Seasons in even more meaningful ways."

Because of all of this, Treyarch explained, it was time to make some key changes to Prestige. In addition to adding more ranks to unlock, earning Prestige is now automatic and will no longer completely rest your access to Create-a-Class content. In other words, you won't lose all of your hand-earned gear, which is fantastic news.

This all-new Prestige will work on a Seasonal system, much like a Battle Pass. You'll work your way through 55 standard Military Ranks, after which you'll start earning Season Levels. Once you hit Season Level 1, you earn your first Prestige. Your second Prestige comes at level 50, with a bonus weapon blueprint. The third comes at level 100, which is the final level between launch and Black Ops Cold War's first official season in December. Season Levels will reset every time a new season drops, obviously.

Finally, Treyarch confirmed that you'll be able to earn up to four Prestiges across 200 levels in a standard season, and earning all four culminates in Prestige Master for that season. You can continue to unlock milestones every 50 levels after that up to 1,000, but you won't be able to earn more Prestiges until the start of the next season. You can also spend Prestige Keys (earned for every 50 level milestone hit) at the Prestige Shop to buy classic Prestige Icons. However, you can't access the Prestige Shop until you've earned Prestige Master for the current season.

Phew. Got all that? Sick of seeing the word Prestige? Me too. Let's call it a day here.
