'Black Ops Cold War' Storage Requirements More Than Double 'Cyberpunk 2077'

You might want to uninstall Modern Warfare or get a bigger HDD.

Activision has confirmed what we'd all feared - Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will require up to 250GB of storage space at launch on PC. While that will no doubt immediately set alarm bells ringing for those of you who are struggling to keep the space for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare - which itself only recently hit the 250GB mark - it's not all bad news.

For starters, the 250GB requirement is only for those of you who want to run the game at the highest possible settings. That means 4K textures, ray tracing, the whole nine yards to get it looking its absolute best. If you aren't bothered by that, you can install the game at 175GB. I grant you that's still absolutely monstrous, but at least its not 250GB. Having said that, Modern Warfare launched at 175GB on PC and now stands at 250GB, so who knows where the game might end up this time next year.

The even better news is those who just want to play multiplayer can install a fairly modest 50GB and leave it there. That also means you can do the 175GB install if you want to experience the whole thing, and then drop down to a lean 50GB when you're done and just want to play some standard multiplayer.

I should also stress that these PC sizes aren't necessarily indictive of storage requirements on console... although they might not be far off. Modern Warfare clocked in at around 120GB at launch on Xbox One, but crept towards 200GB through subsequent updates.

To put Black Ops Cold War's storage requirements into perspective, upcoming open-world RPG Cyberpunk 2077 only needs 70GB of storage on PC. It's not entirely clear where all this extra space is coming from for the latest Call Of Duty, but the last several instalments have become infamous for devouring storage space - it's something Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward has had to frequently apologise for, and has even made attempts to keep storage requirements down via updates and the ability to only install the parts of the game you intend to play - something Black Ops Cold War has clearly adopted too.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on November 13th. May God have mercy on your storage space.
