'Call Of Duty: Warzone' Matches Are Being Scrambled By Black Ops Teasers

'Call Of Duty: Warzone' Matches Are Being Scrambled By Black Ops Teasers

"Know your history"

Things have really started to heat up in Call Of Duty: Warzone. Numerous players have reported that their matches have been randomly interrupted by a scrambled message, clearly intended to serve as a teaser for the incoming Call Of Duty 2020 reveal. The message, which flashes up on screen for a few seconds before disappearing, reads "know your history".

This would seem to be a reference to Call Of Duty 2020's rumoured Cold War setting, which has been all but confirmed at this point by everything from industry insiders to packets of doritos. The upcoming game, which is being developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, will reportedly be a Black Ops reboot called Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Despite the (really rather alarming number of) leaks over the last few months, Activision and Treyarch have kept relatively quiet about their plans for Call of Duty 2020. Things have finally started to get going this last week, however, as various influencers revealed that they'd received mysterious black crates from the publisher.

Opening the crates didn't exactly confirm the existence of Black Ops Cold War, but we got more of an indication of when to expect further news. It looks as if something will be going down this Friday around 8pm BST, and it's widely believed that the game's full reveal will be intrinsically linked to the free-to-play battle royale. Heck, Activision basically confirmed as much just a few weeks ago.

When asked about the company's plans to reveal Call Of Duty 2020 in a recent earnings call, Activision president Robert Kostich simply said: "All I can say in terms of timing is I expect you'll be hearing more about this fairly soon.

"Warzone has caused us to rethink how, when and even where we reveal our upcoming titles, so we can't wait to share with the community and we think it's going to be very different and more engaging than anything we've ever done before."

I think it's fair to say that the scrambled messages in Warzone are just the beginning of something much larger. We'll be sure to update you with the latest on Call Of Duty 2020 as soon as we know more.
