'Call Of Duty: Vanguard' Gameplay Isn't Impressing Players At All

The similarities between Vanguard and Warzone have turned out to be a poisoned chalice.

Last night, we got a good look at the multiplayer mode for the anticipated Call Of Duty: Vanguard. Regrettably, the community isn't too pleased with what it saw.

Earlier this year, the word on the street was that Sledgehammer Games was taking the reins on the next Call Of Duty and that it would use the Second World War as its setting. Of course, these whispers turned out to be right on the money, yet the events of Vanguard occur after the defeat of the Axis powers. The Special Forces unit at the centre of the story will be tracking down and eliminating Adolf Hitler's successor, and the multiplayer mode is introducing a number of new elements to players.

Gunfight has evolved into Champion Hill which challenges combatants to survive a squad-based deathmatch, round-robin tournament with a minimum of 12 lives at their disposal. Also, the Buy Rounds let players purchase different weapons, gear and perks with in-game currency generated in the matches, so there's no way of knowing what your rivals are bringing back into the heat of the battle. Still, with these additions, fans of Call Of Duty aren't that impressed by the new gameplay.

He said, she said. Why not draw your own conclusions here with the official multiplayer trailer for Call Of Duty: Vanguard?

"Visually it's a masterpiece and I give huge props to the art designers... But it feels like nothing new," said POWER Serg on YouTube. "This just has me thinking it's just a WW2 aesthetic on MW mechanics," continued Captain_Jmon on Reddit. "Obviously will wait until the beta comes out to see how it plays, but I'm not holding my breath."

There has also been criticism for the number of cinematics in this trailer as these aren't necessarily representative of the experience of playing the game. Furthermore, those who have gone hands on with Vanguard have found that using the same engine as Modern Warfare has its advantages and disadvantages.

PC Gamer, for example, gets that the similarity between Vanguard and Warzone will allow the two games to overlap neatly and without too many technical hiccups. However, this means that the use of World War II as a historical setting is almost a moot point as the mechanics and weapons feel and handle just the same as those in Verdansk.
