The Assassin's Creed series, at this point, as a long history. It's not exactly the new kid on the block as there are over a dozen mainline titles - not to mention the film and the smaller side projects that have come with the series.

However as more and more games have been released over the years, the main protagonist of the titles have drifted away from the idea of being an assassin. The first protagonist Altaïr is a young assassin who has an ego the size of the moon and needs to be retaught the lessons of the brotherhood. Ezio and Connor are similarly involved with the creed and have a dedication to the cause - while Haytham and Edward Kenway complicate the ideas of being an assassin in a compelling way.

The origins of the series are intertwined with being a real assassin within the world but the latest three editions of the game are really different in that way. Bayek, Kassandra, and Eivor are more distantly related to the ideas of the assassin's although, mild spoilers, Eivor does meet the brotherhood where Kassandra and Bayek do not.

Fans, now, are asking that Ubisoft returns to a real assassin for the next game. A post on Reddit reveals that user Hbimajorv just wants to play as part of the creed once again. Their post "Regardless of location, I want an established Assassin as the next protagonist." has gained quite a bit of traction on the Assassin's Creed subreddit because a lot of other players agree.

Hbimajorv's idea, specifically, is detailed on Reddit, "Something along the lines of you were the head or 2nd in charge of an established chapter, they were all ambushed and killed leaving you the sole survivor on a quest for vengeance dashed with a bit of betrayal while you rebuild the honor of the guild.

"I like the new games, a lot actually but the starting at square one and having to suspend my knowledge of who and what the hidden ones are needs a break."

People in the comments agree quite strongly. Some want a new assassin while others like Cute-Vehicle-8915 say that they'd prefer to play an Assassin at the top of their game already. "I want one that's reverse of what we've got recently. You start in the assassin HQ as one of their best assassins. And the civilian identity is just a cover/costume," they comment.

Ubisoft has definitely changed the formula in recent years with Assassin's Creed. We hope that they return to the original ideas of the franchise at least once more so we can explore the brotherhood once again.
