We're seeing so many video game film adaptations it's ridiculous. It seems that Hollywood is enjoying tapping into the talent that games have to offer. We've already seen and enjoyed The Witcher series, we're waiting on the Uncharted film starring Tom Holland, and now, according to a new report, we could also be looking forward to a Demon's Souls film in the future.
Giant Freakin Robot has released information on a potential film project that Sony is working on, and all we know is that it's based on Demon's Souls, the wildly successful FromSoftware game. This might be a little surprising for a couple of reasons, actually, the first is that though the lore of Demon's Souls is rich, it's not a story-driven game you might assume an adaption would favour. Your main character isn't stoic like Geralt of Rivia or charismatic like Nathan Drake, they're just an adventurer doomed to fight demons without much of a personality.
So the question is asked, what will a Demon's Souls film look like? Will it be that adventure with a specific adventurer? Or will it be a separate story set in Boletaria before the Deep Fog descended? Hmm.
As the original report comments, it's interesting that we're hearing about a potential Demon's Souls film when it could be argued that this title is less popular than the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne or even something like Sekiro Shadows Die Twice. Why Demon's Souls, specifically? Mysterious and definitely something to ponder while the film is still an unannounced project.
Right now though, we can focus on a more pressing release - Elden Ring. The next FromSoftware game had a bunch of leaked video footage not long ago, prompting some to think that the first trailer of the game has been pushed back. But having seen the videos of early Elden Ring builds, we can't wait to experience what G.R.R. Martin and FromSoftware have concocted.
