Move over Elden Ring, an expansion for the first Dark Souls game delivers brand-new content to a game over a decade old.
Out of all of FromSoftware’s masterpieces, my all-time favourite is Dark Souls for a number of reasons. While technically speaking it's inferior to the likes of Elden Ring, it has an innate charm that’s kept me coming back playthrough after playthrough.

That being said, when you’ve played a game over and over again it can slowly lose its appeal without something to spice up the repetition, which is where mod expansions come in.

One such expansion, and the topic of today’s discussion, is called Dark Souls: Daughters Of Ash and it’s seemingly an entirely different game.
As explained in the mod’s description, Dark Souls: Daughters Of Ash is a “massive re-imagining and expansion of Dark Souls.”
The description goes on to say that it adds “new bosses, enemies, characters, storylines, weapons, and items, expanded lore, and many new secrets”, all of which can be sampled and explored at your own pace.
In short it completely reworks the game, and is well-worth checking out if you know Lordran like the back of your hand, as a number of changes are made to make you defer from your usual route.

Honestly as good as the expansion is it just makes me want Dark Souls 4 even more, and hopefully one day FromSoftware continues to the Dark Souls series with a fourth game,
But then again games like Bloodborne and Elden Ring have always been considered as spiritual successors, and quite rightly.
Dark Souls: Daughters Of Ash is available to download for free via NexusMods, and is perfect for Chosen Undead in need of a new challenge.
