'Dying Light' Just Got An Awesome Viking-Themed Expansion, Six Years After Launch

The Light stuff.

Fan-favourite zombie parkour action game Dying Light might have released way back in 2015, but developer Techland has consistently supported the title for six years with substantial updates - all while continuing to work on the upcoming sequel. Impressive stuff, especially for a predominately single-player experience.

After a significant fantasy-themed DLC expansion last Summer, Dying Light's latest batch of content is a little lighter... but no less of a reason for fans to head back to the game's open world and get stuck into some more zombie slaying action.

The Viking: Raiders of Harran update is available on all platforms now, and gives players the chance to play as two new characters: Bjorn the Warrior and Bjorn the Berserker. As you might of guessed, these Viking warriors will be able to equip a bevy of new Viking-themed weapons and mow down as many zombies as they can until Valhalla finally beckons. Check out the trailer below.

"Who said Vikings did not fight zombies?" asks the DLC's description. "They'd better get their facts straight because there seems to be a precedent in Harran. The deep has washed up a Norseman. What Norseman? - you'd ask. Why, you, of course! And you've never looked better. After all, what are some zombies compared to what you've already been through? Wars, bloodbath, plundering... Harran surely is just yet another place you'll conquer. And we're going to help you."

In addition to Bjorn the Warrior and Bjorn the Berserker, the bundle contains two heavy axes, two one-handed swords, two shields, and new skin for the buggy. This might not be the Dying Light 2 news we've been waiting for, but it'll tide us over for now.

Late last year developer Techland has promised that 2021 would be the year we finally get an update on the project. A brief message on the game's official Discord server read: "Happy Holidays from the Dying Light team! We've been, er, dying to update you all on how development has been going. We'll have fresh updates about Dying Light 2 in the new year."

The most recent rumours suggest that Dying Light 2 is aiming for a spring 2021 release date, although the closer we get to spring the less likely that actually looks. Still, Vikings, right?
