Grand Theft Auto Leaker Claims To Know 'GTA 6' Map Location

It's not the first time we've heard this one...

An alleged Grand Theft Auto leaker who previously predicted a number of GTA Online updates as well as the recently announced GTA V port claims to have more information about the future of the Rockstar franchise. Specifically, he claims to know where the currently in-development GTA VI will take place, and it sounds like we're headed back to a familiar location.

In a lengthy post over on Reddit, user markothemexicam has suggested that GTA VI will be set in Vice City, a location we haven't seen since the appropriately titled GTA: Vice City. However, while the 2006 classic took place in the 1980s, GTA VI will take place during an "unspecified" time period

He also suggests that the game will have unique weather systems that will actually affect NPCs, including "random lightning strikes". That would be a weird detail to just make up, I have to say. Markofthemexicam didn't say much more, other than that Rockstar will probably announce GTA VI at some point next year.

Markofthemexicam claims to have gotten his information from a roommate that used to work for Rockstar North, before being let go along with nearly 100 other employees. I'm aware that just sounds like the millennial equivalent of having an uncle who works for Nintendo, but as mentioned earlier, this particular leaker does have some previous history in accurate predictions.

This also isn't the first time we've heard that a return to Vice City is on the cards for GTA VI. Previous rumours suggested that the upcoming title would be partly inspired by Narcos, and see players travelling between Vice City and Mexico in a story centered around smuggling drugs. Rockstar is a famously tight-lipped company, however, so it's impossible to say how true any of this is until the developer decides to share more.

Markofthemexicam has also suggested that GTA Online will be getting a major update when it comes to next-gen consoles. He claims that Rockstar is introducing an entirely new map for players to explore based on GTA IV's Liberty City, and that this map - not Los Santos - will be the focus of all exclusive next-generation updates for the popular online game.

"[My roommate] said that the new location is Liberty City," he explained. "Niko Bellic is coming back, with his voice talent Michael Hollick. The heist is about robbing gold reserves in Liberty City. Many freemode activities and Quick Jobs will be added to remastered Liberty City and future updates for PS5 will be based on Liberty City."
